Wellingborough Golf Club – strategy for woodland management

Our team was instructed by Wellingborough Golf Club to devise a strategy for the conservation of their impressive 160-acre parkland. The objective was to create a sustainable, long-term plan for managing ash dieback and safeguarding the overall treescape for future generations to enjoy.

The park is covered by several designations and Tree Preservation Orders. Therefore, we have worked closely with the local authority, key stakeholders, and, of course, the membership, to ensure that the trees continue to form a secure and sustainable framework for this stunning parkland course.

Having identified potential risks associated with the narrow mature tree belt that frames the site, we helped facilitate extensive new planting 25 years ago. Having these areas in place has enabled management of the failing mature ash to be addressed effectively without the loss of a mature woodland backdrop.

Regular communication and events for members have ensured that those who enjoy and value the tree resource understand better how these massively important landscape and biodiversity assets need active management to enable them to fulfil their long-term potential.
